Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a list of frequently asked questions related to Direct Primary Care (DPC). If you have a question that is not listed, please contact me so I can help answer your questions.
DPC is a membership-based healthcare model where families pay a monthly fee for comprehensive primary care services. This means no copays, deductibles, or surprise bills for routine visits. DPC clinics focus on building strong relationships with families and providing personalized care.
I can not overstate the personalization of the care you will get with North Star Pediatrics. Unhurried appointments, timely visits, and direct access to me (Dr. Vanguelova) via phone, text or email. You will always talk directly to me and always see me for appointments.
Unless it is an emergency, call North Star Pediatrics first!
I (Dr. V) will get back to you the same day, mostly within the hour. When you call, you won't get a scripted advice from a triage nurse, you will be talking directly with me. At North Star Pediatrics, we offer same- and next-day appointments as well, in the comfort of your home.
Yes. DPC is not a replacement for health insurance. I recommend a high-deductible health plan or a wraparound policy to cover major illnesses and catastrophic events.
I see children from newborn through college.
I am available after hours to address urgent needs.
The after hours policy with specific information is included in the membership agreement.
You can. Starting January 1, 2026 you can legally use your HSA to pay the DPC membership fees.
Yes! Vaccinations are one of the most important things we do in pediatrics. By vaccinating, we are helping protect our kids and our community against potentially deadly diseases. I follow the national ACIP/CDC childhood vaccination schedule which is reviewed and updated annually. I welcome open conversations with caregivers about any concerns or questions they have about vaccines, for we all have the same goal - to keep kids healthy!
Yes. North Star Pediatrics welcomes patients with all types of insurance, including Medicaid/OHP. However, as a DPC practice, we do not bill any insurance plans. This means you would pay our membership fee directly. If you have Medicaid/OHP, please be aware that the primary care services North Star Pediatrics provides are already covered by your plan. To receive care at our practice, you will be required to sign an annual acknowledgement form stating that you understand you have access to these services elsewhere and still choose to pay for our DPC services.
